ONO TACOS – MAUI, HI – USA - A cute small restaurant

We were hungry. Ono Tacos help out in times of need.

Isn’t that how all good food stories start? But our problem is that we always want to find the best well-kept secrets wherever we go and so we scour the internet, comb instagram posts, call grandmothers, whatever it takes to uncover a place that serves something deserving of our love. The unassuming Ono Tacos totally fit the bill. This place looks like a family cook out. On a long veranda, they’ve set up a grill and produce mouth-watering Mexican fare (I love the pink propane tank). We tried every taco except of the Al Pastor but our favorites were the Pescado (Fish) and the Asada (Steak), both utterly delectable. The thing to do is order a selection with your stuffings of choice and eat it right there leaning against a telephone pole because seating is virtually non-existent.  After the first bite you’ll want more of the good stuff.

All the ingredients are fresh & juicy, spices are well-balanced and the corn tortillas thin and soft just the way we love it. You also have a wide selection of sauces and of course fresh lime and cilantro. Hawaii may not be the best place for Mexican cuisine, but this place is probably as authentic as it gets and at $3 a taco, the prices are unbeatable.

The hot dogs and quesadillas are also good but stick to the tacos. You’ll thank us later.
