A made-to-order burger à la Chiq Chaq

The first word that popped into my head as I sidled into Chiq Chaq was, “cool”. Its got bold-color decor and an off-the-wall combination of wood, painted metal, potted plants, set to a background of classic-funky-fresh Erykah Badu cooing from the speakers. Particularly for a burger or wrap-enthusiast, it seemed that Chiq Chaq is where it’s at.

Whether you’re in the mood for a luscious, filling beef burger, or want to opt for the homemade bean patty burger, Chiq Chaq doesn’t discriminate when it comes to food. In fact their company motto is, “There is no love more sincere than the love of food”.

You order by ballot, where you personalize your dish, crossing off your options using a pencil in a wine glass. Not only can you choose to make your dish low-carb, but you can ‘upgrade’ it with an ingredient of your choice, perhaps some avocado, caramelized onions or even shrimp. After choosing, you sign off your menu choice with your name, which honestly made me feel very special as a guest.

I tried their veggie burger dripping sour cream with a side order of French fries topped with jalapeños. Expect a 15 minute wait for your freshly-made order, but no fear, enjoy a game of tic-tac-toe on Chiq Chaq’s customized place mats while your food is being prepared.

The chow is definitely worth the wait.

Oozing, gooey, yummy cheese, dripping off a juicy patty between two soft-on-the-inside-crispy-on-the-outside burger buns. French fries with the right amount of fry and firmness. Chiq Chaq delivered what they promised. I ate until I couldn’t muster another bite. I was dying to try the mango madness salad. Maybe next time.

This review covered the branch in the 9th district, but now due to popular demand, Chiq Chaq has opened a much more central branch at the Naschmarkt, which is definitely worth a visit!

The Verdict: For burger lovers Chiq Chaq is the place to head to when you want to fill an empty stomach. Be ready to spend a little money on a lot of high-quality fresh food.
