The Kitchen: home of the Love Sandwich

The Kitchen is a restaurant in Woodstock, which serves delicious sandwiches, salads (our favorite is the African Burn salad) and honey roasted sausages, but that’s not all. If you’re looking for a delectable lunch menu with barley-roasted salmon and marinated seared leg of lamb with chermoula & tzatziki this is the right place to be.

The location is a little bit off the beaten path and if you are jonesing for homespun goodness on Saturday just stop by their food stand at the Neighbourgoods Market at the old biscuit mill. Of course you have to try the Love Sandwich which was approved by First Lady Michelle Obama herself. What’s good enough for her is good enough for us.

This juicy and at the same time crisp sandwich comes with all the fixings you could wish for: Tender Chicken Breast, Avocado slices, tomatoes, crisp salad, pickles, honey mustard sauce or you can go all veggie. So the Love in the Love Sandwich comes from the fabulous people who make it and the fresh and organic ingredients.

All their sandwiches are made on artisanal rolls and filled with their homemade pestos, mayos and dressings.

The Kitchen is like smooth-running homemade machinery, and the brainchild of the charming Karen Dudley. It is definitely one of the stars of the Mother City.

The Verdict:

It’s all about taste being in perfect harmony with a place. It reminded me of Bakesale Betty in Oakland, which I adore. Go for the heavenly food, stay for the charming service and leave with a happy feeling in your belly and love on your mind.
