Indian Pavilion

SHUBHARAMBH – Auspicious Beginnings

For me this petite restaurant is without a doubt my favorite indian restaurant in Vienna and after walking past it a thousand times I finally glimpsed it out of the corner of my eye and ever since that day I have been a loyal customer.

The love for detail and tradition is a key concept at the Indian Pavilion, which means that the important thing is not the size of the meal but the quality. Anything lentil is to die for like the lentil soup or the lentil dumplings in yogurt sauce – add to that the south indian chicken soup with coconut milk or just pick one of their three daily menus. My favorite dish is the traditional thali (veggie or non veggie).

Be aware that this place has only seating space for 8 people and in summer additionally 15 outside. The interior is standard classic indian and you basically sit at the improvised bar while the staff cooks in front of you. Even though it’s tiny and cramped everyone and especially the guests are always happy. But if you need your waiters to kiss your ass or your seat needs to be out of baby seal skin then better stick to other restaurants. Everyone else get ready for some indian delights.
