Haas Coffee Collective - Cape Town

From the moment we walked in we we’re completely charmed by the place. Haas Coffee Collective is everything a whimsical coffee-lover could wish for, from the effortless symbiosis of subdued decor to the creamy cappuccino and to-die-for breakfast food. It lives the philosophy of we-are-so-hip-but-we-don’t-care and still has attentive service, all amongst wacky design paraphernalia arranged with taste and purpose. Haas exhibits an ever-changing array of great designers from different artistic persuasions: paintings, sculptures, ceramics & jewelry.

The interior design is as sophisticated as the artwork lining the walls and hanging from the ceiling. As you settle into one of the comfy couches there is a delicious selection to choose from. It starts with the classic croissant (in different variations) and ranges to a very big, very juicy baguette with chargrilled chicken, greens and feta, or one of the many classic breakfast choices that will make the rest of your day. It’s also worth just going for a coffee from their single origin beans, which theythemselves roast to perfection. Or pick one of the tea flavors served in a metal Japanese pot. Classy.

If you feel adventurous try the Kopi Luwak, also called civet coffee, refering to the seeds of coffee berries once they have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet.

Take a sip, lay back and relax. Enjoy the atmosphere and browse through the different regional design objects on offer (Anomali, Lisa Miller, Haide Nell). By the way, the name Haas is Afrikaans for rabbit so don’t be surprised to see a lot of rabbit themed designs.

Verdict:
We could’ve hung out at this place everyday, meeting new people, drinking coffee and maybe even start writing the book i keep talking about. It’s a sweet smelling abode of good vibes and inspiration.
