Downstairs Delectable at Graanmarkt 13

Following the steps down i reach the landing and was greeted by a warm and friendly interior with just the right amount of avantgarde to make it hip for the stylish crowd of antwerpians that frequent this tasty restaurant on a regular schedule.

Chef Seppe Nobel welcomed us with his charming smile and after a sip of rose champagne the plates of food started coming. As i had the whole starter menu i can tell you that all of the starters are do die for good. Even the corn is good and i hate corn.

From the juicy organic pork pastrami, the bouchet mussels with basil to the pea hummus with mint i devoured each and every plate. That was the moment we started with the dinner menu. The three course menu was perfectly cooked and with the ingredients coming partly from their own garden everything tastes a little bit crunchier and fresher than usual. The summer pumpkin was the only dish that lost a bit to the other dishes being a very light tasting experience.

The BBQ pork and the red snapper as the main dish with thrre different vegetable side dishes to share is a very cool idea that brings everybody a bit closer to the table. The BBQ pork could have been a bit more burnt but that’s just me loving the cuisine of Francis Mallmann and his love for burning food the perfect way.

All in all a wonderful experience and i can only thank the chef Nobel for his guidance through the wonderful joy of eating flanders cuisine
